LITS has been finding interpreters for courts, hospitals and council teams for more than 20 years, across more than 300 languages. When you book one, you want to be thinking about the person in front of you, not about who is turning up or where they're going, so that side of it is ours. You'll know your interpreter's name ahead of the appointment, and the details from your booking will be with them: the address, the time and what the appointment is for. Whether it's a hearing at the Law Courts on Blackhorse Street or an assessment on a ward at the Royal Bolton, the interpreter comes in already knowing the job.
We can send an interpreter to you anywhere in the borough, from Horwich and Westhoughton to Farnworth and Little Lever, or connect you by telephone or video. Send your enquiry any time between 9am and midnight, seven days a week, and you will have a quote back generally within the hour.
Courts and tribunals across the UK see our interpreters regularly, the Royal Courts of Justice in London and the District Registry of the High Court in Manchester among them, and in Bolton, the Crown Court and the magistrates’ court. We work with NRPSI-registered interpreters, and LITS is an ATC Accredited Member – background checked by the Association of Translation Companies and bound by its Code of Professional Conduct.
Our interpreters hold enhanced DBS certification, and where an assignment requires it, Home Office Counter Terrorist Check or police vetting to NPPV3.

"Susan was highly professional and quickly understood the nature of this assignment. Her listening and communication skills with the French speaking attendees was excellent"

Describe the appointment. The language, the date, the start time and how long it’s expected to last, the venue’s full address and what the appointment is, plus whether Legal Aid is funding it and whether you want the interpreter in the room, on the phone or on video.
We quote. Quotes generally within the hour, 9am-midnight, 7 days a week.
The interpreter is sorted. Their name comes to you before the appointment and the details from your booking go to them, so you don’t have to fill anyone in on the day.
When an interpreter we’ve booked can’t make it, we arrange someone to take their place. If a client has already met one of our interpreters, tell us the name when you book: standing arrangements with the same interpreters are how we work for many languages.
Bolton Crown Court and Bolton Magistrates’ Court share the Law Courts on Blackhorse Street: one address, two courts, with different facilities. The Crown Court has video links to prison by arrangement and interview rooms on its first and third floors; the magistrates’ court has no prison link, and its interview rooms can’t be booked ahead. Benefit appeals are heard nearby at Bayley House on St Georges Square, though the tribunal’s postal address is in Liverpool. There’s no county or family court in Bolton at all. A family or civil case goes to the venue on the notice, with Wigan County Court and Family Court and the Manchester Civil Justice Centre the nearest listed, and the listed venues for immigration appeals are in Manchester.
An interpreter who only knows “Bolton court” can end up at the Law Courts for a hearing in Wigan, or counting on an interview room the magistrates’ court doesn’t take bookings for. So each booking carries the venue from your notice, which court it is and whether the interpreter should attend in person or by video, and the interpreter has all of it before the day. Put the venue on the booking once, and you’re not the one relaying it on the morning.
For a hearing where the booking falls to your side, the conference with counsel and the statement before it, we supply qualified interpreters, NRPSI-registered or members of ITI. Benefit appeals at Bayley House and immigration appeals in Manchester work differently. The tribunal provides the hearing interpreter when you ask for one, and at a benefit appeal your own can’t interpret during the hearing, so for those, ours is for the meetings and the statement beforehand. For a funded case, our Legal Aid interpreting page covers the booking, and our guide to court interpreter bookings explains when the court arranges one and when it’s down to you.
The Royal Bolton Hospital is on Minerva Road in Farnworth, and not everything on the site belongs to the hospital’s own trust. Greater Manchester Mental Health runs the Rivington Unit and several wards alongside it, including Beech, Oak and Maple House, each with its own contacts. A booking for “the Royal Bolton” that is really a Rivington Unit assessment sends an interpreter to the wrong reception, and the start of a mental health assessment isn’t a moment anyone wants to lose. Bolton’s community health teams also see patients at more than 20 health centres around the borough, so an appointment with the trust isn’t always at the hospital.
So the unit, the service and the full address are copied from the appointment letter into your booking, and they reach the interpreter in advance. You don’t have to work out which trust runs which ward; the letter already says, and your booking carries it to the interpreter.
"Very grateful for the excellent service."

Bolton’s custody suite is at Scholey Street Police Station, a different street from the courts on Blackhorse Street. For a PACE interview there, the interpreter holds the custody address and the type of interview beforehand, and has NPPV3 police vetting where an assignment requires it. Whoever makes the booking, the custody address is one thing nobody has to chase at the desk.
