Over 25,000 official documents translated and certified by our team

Every Derby job starts with the same question: who is going to read it? A registrar at Riverside Chambers works from a different list from an admissions team at the University of Derby, so we find out where your document is going and prepare it for that desk. When an office asks for a certified translation, we translate the whole document, stamps included, and attach a signed statement confirming it is accurate and complete. It’s the work LITS is known for.

Government departments, the NHS, councils and national employers send us theirs, and so do thousands of people with one certificate and one deadline. Each translation leaves us signed by a director of LITS, and a paper copy carries our stamp on every page. We’re an Accredited Member of the Association of Translation Companies, which vetted us and holds us to its code of conduct.

The details we confirm before your translation starts

The right version. Many countries issue a short and a full form of the same record, and the short one can leave out exactly what the office wants to see. We read what you send and ask what it’s for before a translator starts, so if you’re holding the wrong version you hear it from us while we’re quoting, not after you’ve paid.

Every stamp and every note. The person reading your translation reads the whole page, so we translate the whole page: seals and stamps front and back, the registrar’s own handwriting, the printed field labels, and anything added in the margin about a later marriage, divorce or change of name. A note the original carries and the English leaves out becomes a question someone has to raise, and your application waits until it’s answered. Where something truly can’t be read, we mark it as illegible. We never guess.

Your name, spelled one way. A name written in Urdu, Punjabi or Arabic script has no single English spelling, which is how one family ends up as Chaudhry on a passport and Chowdhury on a certificate. We ask which spelling your passport uses, or the form this translation is going in with, and use that one, with the original script shown beside it. Where the document itself gives a name two ways, both are recorded. If the certificate and your other papers disagree, we tell you before we go any further.

Translations prepared for a Derby marriage notice

Derby City Council takes notice appointments at Riverside Chambers on Full Street, and its document checklist asks for a full English translation of any listed document that isn’t in English. It also asks for the documents themselves; photocopies aren’t accepted. So we work from a clear photo or scan, your originals stay with you, and on the day you take both: the original record and our certified translation of it.

A previous marriage or a change of name. The checklist asks for evidence of how any previous marriage or civil partnership ended, and for the documents behind any change of name. Send those with your birth certificate and we translate them as one set, so your name is spelled the same way on every page the registrar turns over.

Worth knowing

A ceremony in Derby doesn't always mean your notice is given in Derby: where you give notice depends on where you live. Tell us which register office your appointment confirmation names, and we work to that office's list.

Professional translations for your University of Derby application

The University of Derby’s admission policy asks for English translations of certificates issued in other languages, and it won’t accept one made by someone you know: a friend, a relative, a teacher or a doctor. Ours are done by qualified translators, each working into their mother tongue, so what you send admissions is the independent, professional translation the policy asks for. Some Derby courses list what the certification must show: a confirmation of accuracy, the date, contact details, and a signature by the translator or a company official, with that person’s full name. Our certificate of accuracy carries a signature, the date, our stamp and our full company details.

Qualifications in a different name. Admissions asks for evidence of a legal name change where the name on a qualification differs from the one on your application. We translate the name exactly as the certificate prints it and flag any mismatch across the papers you send. Include the deed poll or marriage certificate, and we translate it alongside, in the same job.

Your originals stay with you. The university can ask to see original qualification documents and tells applicants not to post them. We translate from your scan or photo, so nothing irreplaceable leaves your hands.

For certain languages, Derby's policy also accepts a UK ENIC Statement of Comparability instead of a translation. That statement compares your qualification with UK levels; it doesn't translate it. If admissions points you to that route, you may not need a translation from us at all, and we'd rather you knew that before ordering.

Worth knowing

A Derby address isn't always the University of Derby. The University of Nottingham's medical school at Royal Derby Hospital sets its own requirements. Give us the institution named at the top of your letter, and we prepare the translation for that one.

Send a photo for a translation quote

  1. Photograph or scan the document. A phone photo is fine, as long as the wording and the stamps are readable. Include every page, both sides where there’s writing, and any instructions from the office receiving it.

  2. Your quote arrives, generally within the hour, between 9am and midnight on any day of the week. It gives the price and the turnaround, and raises anything we need to settle first, such as the spelling of your name.

  3. Your checked, certified translation comes back as a PDF by email, with the certificate of accuracy signed, stamped and dated. If the office wants paper, we can send a certified hard copy by tracked special delivery.

What does it cost? Our birth certificate translation page shows the price for that document. For anything else, or a set of papers, send them together and the price comes back in writing before any work starts. See what is included in our certified translation service.

Going to court with it? A court usually wants more than the translation alone; read how foreign-language evidence is filed in UK courts before you order.

We take full responsibility for our work: if a translation is rejected because of a shortcoming on our part, we’ll rectify it within 24 hours. If the rejection is due to external factors, such as a change in the receiving body’s requirements or an issue with the original document, we will assist you with the rectification.

Send your document for a quote, wherever in Derby it's going

A photo is enough to start. Tell us which office asked for the translation and when you need it back, and we’ll look at what you’ve sent with that office in mind before we quote, so anything worth raising reaches you before you pay. Quotes generally within the hour, 9am to midnight, seven days a week. If you’d rather speak to someone first, ring 01254 674514.
